Native American Wisdom

The Mohawk used to live in New York near the Mohawk River. They lived in bark-covered structures known as long houses. The men hunted, and the women farmed crops and gathered other wild crops. The Mohawk were particularly well known for their fierce and highly skilled warriors.

The Mohawk were among the five original nations in the Iroquois League. After the Revolutionary War, many Mohawk moved to Canada. Today, most of the tribe’s approximately 7,000 members live in Canada, and some live in New York.
