Onondaga Proverbs

There are no secrets or mysteries—there is only common sense.

We give back thanks to our mother, the earth that sustains us.

We give thanks back to the Sun that has looked upon the Earth with beneficial eyes.

Native American Wisdom

The Onondaga used to live in New York, and were predominantly farmers and hunters. They formed a social structure where the adult males of each community formed a council that was headed by village chiefs. They were also part of the Iroquois League.

About 1000 Onondaga currently live in a New York reservation.
